Band Camp starts tomorrow! I'm really excited to get this year started. I just wanted to send out a couple of reminders for the next two weeks.
What To Wear
Even dressing with the themes (more on that below) you need to make sure you're dressed for summer weather. Shorts, sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, etc. Do not wear jeans to band camp. Also shoes need to be athletic in nature. No crocs, slide, flip flops, boots, etc.
BRING SUNSCREEN
Theme Days
We do theme days at band camp as a way to make it more fun. The whole band will divide up into teams at band camp (Think Harry Potter and getting sorted into houses when you arrive at Hogwarts) and teams will compete for points throughout the two weeks. Dressing up for each theme day is one way to get points.
WEEK 1
Monday: USA Day
Tuesday: Tropical
Wednesday: Camo
Thursday: Celebrity Look Alike
Friday: White Lies
WEEK 2
Monday: Twin Day
Tuesday: Dress as O'Bryant
Wednesday: Mean Girls
Thursday: Character Day
Friday: Job Day
Schedule
Band camp starts at 12 noon every day. Most days end at 8pm but on Wednesdays we will end at 5pm for church.
There is a meal break at 4:30 every day. Students are not to leave campus for their meals. Parents can bring food but most students pack a lunch. I will have sandwich materials every day for anyone who needs food.
Special Events
The first Friday of Band Camp (July 24th) we will go on a field trip to see DCI Birmingam. This is essentially a contest for professional marching band. We will purchase the admission tickets and provide transportation. Students will need to take money to eat at the concession stand. Parents are also free to come along! You'll just have to buy your own tickets.
The last Friday of Band Camp (July 31st) we will have our preview show. This is a cookout and a chance to show what we've learned at band camp. All parents need to make sure you are in attendance for this preview show because I would like to talk to everyone about the upcoming year and what to expect.
After Band Camp
Please check the full Summer/Fall schedule sheet that I've sent out! There are three events between band camp and school starting. On Monday (8/3) we have band pictures at 9am, then we have rehearsal from 3-5pm on Tuesday (8/4) and Thursday (8/6). These, just like band camp, are all required events. So make sure you have them marked on your calendar.
Let's have a great couple weeks of band camp!
